The Ubyssey, the definitive source of news on campus, is looking for CPSC students like you to improve the way their news articles are spread. Their current goal is to be on the cutting edge of online journalism, and you can be a part of this initiative! This is a great opportunity for your CPSC skills and hard work to gain exposure! Below is a list of volunteer positions available. To apply, simply email interested position(s), and a resume and/or portfolio to Paul Bucci - Ubyssey Coordinating Editor with the subject line “Ubyssey Application - Your Name”. If applying for multiple positions, please rank them in order of preference.
Webmaster:
The Ubyssey needs webmasters! Responsibilities include working with the editors to achieve their goals on the web, maintaining and improving ubyssey.ca, expanding our online ad strategy, SEO optimization and integrating multimedia with our current framework. This is a volunteer position; however, it would be the foundation of our future web development team. If you’re interested in journalism and social media, this is a perfect chance for you to get ahead of the industry. Must know HTML, CSS, PHP, and be interested in Java.
Web Content Coordinator:
As we move into the world of interactive print design, we need someone who can facilitate this online as well. Many of the projects we would like to do require translation into Flash, Java, CSS, etc. If you’re interested in infographics and the changing face of news media, this is the position for you. Some examples include: interactive maps, navigable infographics, and more

Mobile/Social Media Developer:
As social and mobile media expands, we need someone who can be versatile enough to get our product out there quickly. For example, we need a Facebook application, a more interactive and intelligent mobile edition, and much more.
Efficiency Consultant:
This position is for anyone interested in cross-platform integration. We work almost exclusively within the Adobe suite for our print edition, and we are trying to find a way to translate that directly into our online workflow. Server knowledge is a must. You will be working closely with the editors to identify workflow issues.

They may also be responsible for planning and organizing search-related meetings and events internal to the department.
Eligibility:
Any full-time undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science. Nominations in by next Friday, the 13th with the election being held on the 20th.

Whether you need some extra academic help as a tutee or want to strengthen your computer science knowledge as a tutor, this would be the perfect program to be a part of!
Students taking first year computer science courses (CPSC 111 and CPSC 121) will have the opportunity to be matched with more experienced computer science students who can help them with course material and other related questions for the term. If you are interested and would like to register, please complete the attached Tutee Registration form and email it to [email protected] with the subject line: "Tutee Registration - Your Name".
For those students who have completed CPSC 111 and CPSC 121, you are strongly encouraged to apply to be a tutor! Tutoring helps to develop both interpersonal and communication skills, which are solid sought after assets in the work field today. Please apply by completing the attached Tutor Application form and emailing it to [email protected] with the subject line: "Tutor Application - Your Name".
Applications must be received promptly by midnight, September 30, 2009. We will then send you more information regarding your interview times (for tutors) and tutor-tutee matchups.
